As part of the LIFE LUNGS project, a technical meeting was held on October 18, which aimed to raise participants’ awareness of the role of cities in the fight against climate change.
At the invitation of the organizer, representatives of the Life After Coal PL project team took part in the conference, and one of the speakers was our colleague, Marta Kubiak, who talked about the “Life After Coal” program implemented in Eastern Greater Poland.
LIFE LUNGS is a project co-financed by the Lisbon City Council and the European Union under the LIFE CLIMA program. Thanks to this project, it was possible to submit an application regarding, among others: various areas of green infrastructure, technical solutions in the field of adaptation to climate change. These solutions respond to the need for increased shading, soil protection and adaptations related to water scarcity.
These nature-based solutions include not only increased tree cover, but also the installation of biodiverse rainfed meadows, with non-mechanical vegetation control through the introduction of sheep flocks. We managed to disseminate good practices in the use of rainwater in urban gardens, create solutions enabling its collection, retention and infiltration, and use the monitoring results to evaluate various technical solutions.
The aim of the conference was to exchange experiences between LIFE LUNGS and other LIFE projects in the field of climate neutrality strategies and the role of strengthening green infrastructure as one of the areas of action in the field of adaptation to climate change.
