The Wilczyn Municipal Energy Cooperative was established as part of the Life After Coal PL project.

This innovative solution streamlines the management of on-site renewable energy. Thanks to the cooperative, energy from local renewable sources—particularly the municipality’s and its facilities’ solar panels—will be utilized much more efficiently.
The official launch took place on December 1, 2025, when the charter was signed. The cooperatives are established by the Municipality of Wilczyn, the Antoni Szulczyński Municipal Cultural Center, and the Wilczyn Municipal Public Library .
Initially, the cooperative will manage three municipal energy supply points (ESPs) equipped with PV systems totaling 70.76 kWp. This will yield tangible results:
- Higher self-consumption of locally generated energy,
- A reduction in electricity costs for the municipality and its departments,
- Better alignment of production with local consumption,
- Greater energy security for communities,
- Reducing emissions of CO₂ and other harmful substances.
This initiative perfectly embodies the mission of Life After Coal PL: it promotes a just transition in the energy sector of post-mining regions, develops grassroots renewable energy models, builds local governments’ capacity in energy management, and paves the way toward climate neutrality.
The cooperative in Wilczyn is more than just a formality—it is a key pillar of the municipality’s energy and climate strategy, which is focused on sustainable development, cost savings, and environmental stewardship. These are exactly the kinds of initiatives we are promoting in the region!
