Local Trends 2025 has come to a close, having served as an important platform for discussions on climate neutrality. Ms. Marzena Andrzejewska-Wierzbicka, Director of the Department of Environmental Management and Climate at the Marshal’s Office of the Wielkopolska Province, presented selected results of the Life After Coal PL project during a debate on upcoming changes related to the emissions trading system for the buildings and transport sectors (ETS2).
The panelists discussed the challenges that ETS2 poses for local governments, which will bear additional emissions costs, as well as mitigation mechanisms such as the Social Climate Fund. The need for effective inter-institutional cooperation was highlighted to ensure that climate policy instruments operate in a coherent manner and that support measures are used to their fullest potential.
