11 December 2023Air quality is crucial for the health of residents and environmental protection. In order to improve air quality in Wielkopolska, the Wielkopolska Regional Assembly adopted the Air Protection Program for the Wielkopolska zone, specified in Resolution No. XXI/391/20 of 13 July 2020.
What actions are being taken?
The program indicates a number of actions that must be implemented by various institutions – both at the provincial and local levels. Key actions include:
- Reducing emissions from individual heating in municipal housing stock and public utility buildings in the municipalities of the Wielkopolska zone
- Financial incentives for the modernization of residential buildings and the replacement of boilers, stoves and furnaces in the municipalities of the Wielkopolska zone
- Inventory of individual heating sources in municipalities
- Monitoring the implementation of the resolution restricting the use of solid fuels
- Thermal modernization of residential and public buildings
- Reducing traffic emissions by regularly keeping streets clean and banning the use of combustion and electric leaf blowers in urban communes and cities in urban-rural communes
- Protection and increase of the share of greenery in the space of urban communes of the Wielkopolska zone
- Ecological education
- Entries in spatial development plans
The importance of the programme for climate neutrality
The activities resulting from the Air Protection Program are consistent with the assumptions of the Life After Coal PL project, which supports the transformation of Eastern Wielkopolska towards climate neutrality. The implementation of POP provisions will contribute to the reduction of harmful emissions and the improvement of the quality of life of the region’s inhabitants.
