The event was attended by representatives from the worlds of science, administration, local government, public health, business, and politics to discuss the challenges posed by climate change and the opportunities for adaptation to climate change and energy transition. Only through cooperation among various institutions is it possible to effectively counteract the effects of climate change, which we are undoubtedly experiencing.   <\/h4>\n\n<p>The event consisted of three thematic sections. The first section, \u201cClimate Change and Its Effects,\u201d featured an introductory presentation by Prof.  Ph.D. Leszek Kolendowicz from Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna\u0144. This was followed by a debate featuring:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Leszek Kolendowicz \u2013 Director of the Institute of Physical Geography and Environmental Planning, Head of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna\u0144 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Micha\u0142 Wierzbicki &#8211; Director of the Pozna\u0144 Regional Water Management Authority<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ma\u0142gorzata Szwed &#8211; Institute of Meteorology and Water Management \u2013 National Research Institute in Pozna\u0144<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Izabela Marciniak \u2013 Director of the Specialized Maternal and Child Health Care Center in Pozna\u0144<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marzena Andrzejewska-Wierzbicka \u2013 Director of the Department of Environmental Management and Climate at the Marshal\u2019s Office of the Wielkopolska Region<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>During the discussion, Micha\u0142 Wierzbicki, Director of the Regional Water Management Authority in Pozna\u0144, addressed the challenges facing water management in light of the hydrological drought, emphasizing the need to take action to protect water resources in the region. He also highlighted the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in adapting to climate change. He drew attention to the key role of water management in land-use planning, the protection of natural resources, and ensuring hydrological security. He also pointed out the challenges that climate change poses for the Regional Water Management Authority in Pozna\u0144 as the institution responsible for water management.   <\/p>\n\n<p>Ms. Izabela Marciniak, Director of the Specialized Maternal and Child Health Care Center in Pozna\u0144, pointed out that climate change also poses challenges for the healthcare sector. The shortening of the duration of individual seasons is accelerating the onset of the infectious disease season, new allergens are emerging, and we are now facing certain previously seasonal illnesses year-round. <\/p>\n\n<p>In the second thematic block, \u201cThe Transition Away from Coal\u2014What Does It Mean?\u201d, the introductory presentation was delivered by Mr. Robert Jeszke, Deputy Director of the Institute of Environmental Protection\u2014National Research Institute and Head of the National Center for Emissions Accounting and Management. The following individuals participated in the second debate:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Henryk Szopi\u0144ski \u2013 Member of the Polish Parliament<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Robert Jeszke &#8211; Deputy Director of IO\u015a-PIB<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marek Ko\u017alicki \u2013 President of the Management Board of Miejska Energetyka Cieplna Pi\u0142a Sp. z o.o. (ENEA Group) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bogdan \u015al\u0119k \u2013 Director of Public &amp; Government Affairs for Central and Eastern Europe at Signify Poland Sp. z o.o.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Krzysztof Borkowicz \u2013 Coordinator of the Intermediate Body Division at the Regional Development Agency S.A. in Konin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kwiryn Naparty &#8211; Director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Pozna\u0144<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>During the debate, a number of issues related to mitigation measures were discussed. Kwiryn Naparty, director of the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Pozna\u0144, addressed the role of forests in mitigating the effects of climate change. He also devoted particular attention to wetlands, which serve a dual function\u2014they act as both carbon and water reservoirs.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The final session, \u201cMeasures for Adapting to Climate Change,\u201d began with presentations on the role of land-use planning in climate change adaptation and an overview of opportunities for supporting adaptation measures under the FEW. The following individuals participated in the discussion: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Piotr G\u0142owski \u2013 Member of the Polish Parliament<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jolanta Sobieszczyk \u2013 Deputy Mayor of Pi\u0142a<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Przemys\u0142aw Surdyk \u2013 Director of the Program Implementation Department at the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Pozna\u0144<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tomasz Wojciechowski &#8211; President of the Management Board of GWDA, LLC  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sylwia Ciesi\u00f3\u0142ka \u2013 Deputy Director, Metropolia Pozna\u0144 Association<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agnieszka Jaszczy\u0144ska &#8211; Wielkopolska Regional Planning Office in Pozna\u0144<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Mr. Piotr G\u0142owski, Member of Parliament and former Mayor of Pi\u0142a, as well as Ms. Jolanta Sobieszczyk \u2014 currently Deputy Mayor of Pi\u0142a \u2014 emphasized the importance of local governments\u2019 ongoing adaptation efforts, ranging from investments in green and blue infrastructure, through environmental education for residents, to responsible spatial planning in the face of the climate change we are experiencing.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sylwia Ciesi\u00f3\u0142ka, Deputy Director of the Pozna\u0144 Metropolis Association, also shared her experiences in this area. She noted that \u201cthe local governments of the Pozna\u0144 Metropolis are implementing projects that address climate challenges.\u201d An important element of the integrated projects under the ZIT is the elimination of heat islands through greening, water retention, and water reuse. These initiatives also include the protection of peatlands and wetlands.
