At present, ongoing adverse climate change, including global warming and rapid changes in weather conditions, is one of the most important challenges of the coming years and a key factor determining further development. In the face of the catastrophic effects of climate change, all measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate neutrality are a priority. <\/p>\n\n

In the Wielkopolska voivodeship, a special area requiring the implementation of climate neutrality measures is Eastern Wielkopolska<\/strong>, where, based on documented lignite deposits and developed technical infrastructure related to power plant operations, there is an extremely important industrial area in the region – the Konin mining and energy basin.<\/p>\n\n

“Strategy for Climate Neutrality Eastern Wielkopolska 2040” is a document defining the policy of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship Self-Government aimed at achieving the EU climate goals at the regional level resulting directly from EU documents, i.e.<\/strong> New Growth Plan – European Green Deal, Clean Planet<\/em> and Hydrogen Strategy<\/em> for a Climate Neutral Europe.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The purpose and essence of drafting the \u201cStrategy…\u201d is to set a new pro-climate approach to the development of the sub-region and to identify and integrate long-term directions of socio-economic development in response to the key challenges of Eastern Wielkopolska related to global warming and climate change, i.e. These include: decarbonization of the energy sector, equitable transformation of the economy towards a zero-carbon and closed-loop economy, revaluation of existing and development of new housing stock towards zero-carbon and energy-efficient construction, transformation of the transport sector towards zero-carbon transport, and preservation of biodiversity at the genetic, species and ecosystem levels. The effect of long-term measures will be to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, develop and increase the use of renewable energy sources, and reduce demand for non-renewable primary energy and increase energy efficiency.<\/p>\n\n

\u201cStrategy…\u201d was developed on the basis of the assumptions adopted by the Board of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship in October 2020, Resolution No. XXV\/472\/20 of December 21, 2020. The Sejmik of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship on the adoption of the Environmental Protection Program for the Wielkopolska Voivodeship until 2030, and Resolution No. 3157\/2021 of the Board of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship of January 21, 2021 on the development of the draft Strategy for Climate Neutrality of Eastern Wielkopolska 2040.<\/p>\n\n
